Events and activities organised by and under IIPPE are diverse, ranging from research workshops to formal conferences. For the most part these are organised within or between individual Working Groups, although events such as the annual Historical Materialism conferences and international research workshops are occasions during which IIPPE scholars and researchers come together to share ideas, foster research and stimulate debate.

Money, Finance and Development Seminar Series
A Money and Development seminar series has been going now for over two years, and was extended this year by the addition of seminars on finance linked to the International Initiative for the Promotion of Political Economy (IIPPE). An important aspect of the series has been the focus on monetary theory, the relation of monetary economics to economic development, and recently the role of finance in contemporary capitalism. The international character of these discussions matches the international mission of IIPPE and will attract interest from outside. The World Bank after Deaton: The Future of Development Research
In 2006, the World Bank commissioned a group of eminent scholars, led by Angus Deaton, to conduct a detailed assessment of its research activities over the previous seven years. Full report and background papers. In many respects, the findings were highly critical but until now there has been little debate about them and the implications of the Report for future approaches to research and policymaking. A number of SOAS academics have come together to contribute to a series of seminars and papers that provide some critical thinking on the way forward for development research across a range of development disciplines. With Deaton as point of departure, they assess the current state and future direction for scholarship, advocacy and policy. In addition, the seminar series is intended to enhance an exchange of ideas with other Colleges within the newly formed London International Development Centre in order to promote innovative cross-disciplinary development research.

Call For Papers
The International Initiative for Promoting Political Economy (IIPPE) in association with the journal Forum for Social Economics are planning a special issue.

Agrarian Change Seminars
In 2008 the Journal started the Agrarian Change seminar series, which we hope to organise every academic year at the School of Oriental and African Studies of the University of London, with regular talks by scholars and activists in the field of agrarian studies (More).
