Introduction
www.iippe.org is the official IIPPE web site, developed based on the Mediawiki which powers Wikipedia. This means, basically, most of the features of Wikipedia are also available in this web site. However, to ensure the integrity of the web site, edit rights will be given to selected members only at this stage.
This document provides guideline for edit of existing pages and creation of new pages.
User Groups and User Rights
User rights are specific access and ability permissions that can be assigned to customizable user groups. Groups can then be assigned to (or removed from) users. iippe.org has two user groups: Sysop and User.
- Sysop
- All the features of Mediawiki are available for the sysops.
- Edit existing pages including protected pages
- Create new pages
- Move pages
- Protect and unprotect pages (only sysops can edit protected pages)
- Protect move
- Create accounts for User (only sysops can create accounts)
- Delete accounts
- Delete pages and their history
- View and restore deleted pages
- Upload and delete files
- Read pages
- iippe.org has two sysops: Heesang Jeon (hidarang@gmail.com) and Satoshi Miyamura (sm97@soas.ac.uk).
- User
- Edit unprotected pages
- Create new pages
- Move pages (pages protected against move can't be moved)

- All the IIPPE members who do not have user accounts are considered as Visitors.
Currently, only selected members of IIPPE have User accounts.
- Working Group Coordinators
- Newsletter Editors
- External Relations Manager
- Education Advisor
User accounts for the above-mentioned members were created and ID/password for each User was sent via email. If you need an account, please contact Heesang or Satoshi.
Create new pages and Edit existing pages
- If you have a User account, you need to sign-in first before editing existing pages or creating new pages. For the signed-in users, each editable (unprotected) pages show 'edit' button. Clicking on the edit button displays the edit screen with the existing content.
- To create a new page, first search if related pages exist. For example, to create a XXX WG page, you can enter 'XXX' in the search box in the sidebar and click on 'Search'. If XXX does not exist, the search result page gives you an option to create a new page. Click on the link to 'create a new page', then the editor will be displayed. Or you can simply type 'www.iippe.org/wiki/XXX'. If the page does not exist, iippe.org returns an error page with the new page creation option.
- See MediaWiki User Manual for more information about edit, link, etc.
- Important: While all the Users can edit any unprotected pages, please limit your edit to the pages that are directly related to your IIPPE activities !!!
- The following pages are protected, which can be only edited by the sysop.
- The web site tracks all the changes, and support roll-back. So do not be afraid of making any mistakes.
Upload files
- Anyone with a User account can upload files with extension of doc, pdf, ppt, xls, etc.
- There is a link to the file upload page in the Toolbox menu to the left sidebar.
- Once uploaded, a file will have its own page which shows the revision history and provides delete option (e.g. File:IIPPE 2nd Workshop Poster.pdf)
- Uploaded file will have a permanent URL - link to a file is easy and simple. (e.g. http://www.iippe.org/wiki/images/f/f5/IIPPE_2nd_Workshop_Poster.pdf)
- A page can have the link to another page. Likewise, links to file pages can be added to any other non-file pages.
- Wiki URL of the file pages always starts with 'Image:' even if files are not image files. This is the way Mediawiki is implemented.
- File size cannot exceed 10MB.
- This web site is not intended to be a file server for IIPPE. Uploaded files always need to be linked to one or more pages.
